NB that Auckland Public Libraries have made available a resource to guide research into WWI:

‘Our boys, our families’ research guide offers window onto WWI

http://www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/EN/News/NewsArticles/Pages/WW100researchguide.aspx

They explain:

“The year 2014 marks 100 years since the beginning of World War I and the start of a four-year global commemoration that will give New Zealanders the chance to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Assembled as part of these centenary commemorations, the Our boys, our families research guide will enable you to carry out independent research into the people who took part in the war, from soldiers on the front line to nurses on hospital ships and those who remained at home.
The research guide includes:
An introduction to the First World War
Tips for good research practice
Lists of resources at Auckland Libraries and the Auckland Council Archives
Two case studies
A reading list
Research prompts
Through the research process we have an opportunity to honour those who made sacrifices for New Zealand, expand our knowledge of these people, add to collective memory and put a human face to the experiences and tragedies of the First World War.”
