Questions to texts about war…

July 18, 2011

In her book, Children’s Literature; an issues approach, Masha Kabakov Rudman challenges her reader to:

Examine three books about a specific war, such as the American Civil War or the World War II.

How does each author treat the ‘enemy’?

How human are the characters?

What are set forth as the causes of the war?

How complex are the causes?

How unanimous are the opinions of all the ‘good’ characters?

Compare the three books.  How much more insight or information do you think you gained about the war because you consulted more than one source?
