Defining life

I just came across a couple of thoughts I had jotted down while reading Bernard Beckett’s Genesis:

Genesis - Bernard Beckett

When Art taunts Adam to ‘define being alive,’ Adam explains that ‘life is the making of order out of disorder.  It is the ability to draw in energy from the outside world, to create form.  To grow.  To reproduce.  You wouldn’t understand.’”[1]

In what way is life the making of order out of disorder? Tell a story…
