Computer games as text

April 13, 2011

Are computer games a text? What generic conventions do they employ?

How are these used in VM Jones’s  Karazan Quartet?

Jones states quite explicitly that Karazan is evolving on its own, just like real life societies (p108) and Kenta assures her friends that Q told them “Karazan may retain some elements of a game world, where everything should be examined and questioned.  Much may occur with a hidden purpose that will only become apparent later.” (p142)  I find this whole notion of a computer game story world that Jones uses interesting… I haven’t analysed the intertextual nature of it, but I wonder…
