Friendship in Karazan

Friendship is valued highly in The Serpents of Arakesh.  In some ways it is a focus of the text.  This focus starts with Adam being an ostracised loner who makes a friend at school (Cameron (pp26+))… then Adam becomes part of a team at Quested Manor…

When the five children spend the night in the forest, they “really” talk (p144) and get to know each other better.  Discussing their innermost desires, Jamie confesses that “Everyone else seems to have a best friend.  But not me.  If I could have one wish, it’d be for that.” (P145)  Friendship seems to be something that every child needs in this bookworld…
