Introducing V.M. Jones

March 23, 2011

V.M. Jones

I really liked The Serpents of Arakesh – the whole Karazan Quartet in fact – and, though it’s aimed at a younger reader than I normally enjoy on a personal level, I did rather enjoy them. I’m not sure what it is that appeals in academic terms, but there’s something there – possibly space-theory-related… dunno

In any case, the fact that I liked it is enough reason to have a critical re-read… which I will get to…

Basic Bio

According to Wikipedia, VM Jones (Victoria (Vicky) Mary Jones) (born 1958) is a children’s author. She was born in Zambia and educated in Zimbabwe. She completed a BA in English, Archaeology and Social Anthropology at the University of Cape Town. Jones moved to Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1997 with her husband and two sons, and has written all her books there.  Classified as a NZ author??? I really don’t know – but her books are published here and they’re good, so until she can tell me how she classifies herself…

There are teaching resources for her novels available at: http://www.teachingonline.org/harpercollins.html

I have to find out more and do a proper academic search, but you know, meanwhile – off to the usual internet suspects for background info…

I couldn’t find many articles, to be honest, but this document lists what looked potentially informative: Articles on V M Jones
