The Dirty War in children’s literature

December 29, 2010

This is just an aside… A number of fictional works dealing with Argentina’s Dirty War have been published, but not so many books, it seems, have been published for young adults/children…. This silence is interesting! I’ve been meaning to follow up on:

Los Sapos de la memoria / Graciela Bialet.  Cordoba, Argentina: Op Oloop Ediciones, c1997

Cementerio Clandestino / Eduardo Agustin Gonzalez.  Buenos Aires, Argentina: Colihue, 1998

There are also a couple of theses around that deal with the dictatorship in literature (children’s literature is not the focus, but might still be informed by these analyses); eg Con el filo de la palabra: respuestas de la literatura Argentina al discurso de la dictadura / Andre, Maria Claudia (PhD, 1995); La subversion del discurso autoritario: la familia en la literatura Argentina del proceso / Murphy, Jean Marie (PhD, 2000)
